Are meetings in the companies really focused ? ?
Meetings, meetings, meetings …….. these are the boring activity for those who dont want to discuss their day to day performances infront of all other colleagues. Can you tell me onething why the meetings are conducted when there are no such discussed topics get implemented.
For managers it is to understand what is really happening in their own office. When they are not the regular trackers.
Management need to understand its subordinates as to the nonperformance is concerned, rather than pointing out their flaws. A healthy meeting is one from which the members & company benefits in one or the other way… don’t you agree ?
Good leadership of the management can be identified in the way they behave with their subordinates. This could help in the growth of the company with flawless commitments. There are lots of tricks where the management absorbs work from the employees. But then employees also need a break after all they are also the same specy as the management is. To keep up employees intact for the work every time, management works from profitable angle.
Let us look at small exercise: Say suppose there is downturn in sales & management would like to come up with the solution by taking some ideas from sales representatives who are the face of company. The smart step would be to conduct lively meeting with sales head of different departments. Lets call it as Circle of trust.
Now the manager of the team need not speak or dominate the discussion, instead it is better to secure the process while members discuss. Discussion could be to air team issues, to share product information or as part of problem solving.
Applying thoughts of 4 B’s can work
-Build on incomplete answers by inviting comments or adding few of the opinions., but always complete the answer.
-Boost the confidence of quieter member. They usually have some secrecy of new or outdated ideas which can click anytime.
-Block the dominant or overly talkative by inviting opinions of others.
-Banter, create an open atmosphere by engaging in friendly banter, crack jokes to relax.
don’t you think this kind of meeting will take the whole day of the employee. Yes it does, but don’t worry you will have ice breakers in between. The discussions of the meeting should be noted by the manager and come out with some good ideas. Just conducting the meeting will not suffice enforcing on the implementation part is as mandatory as the water to a fish.
You must have observed that when the manager of the team laughs or smiles only then the members laugh or smile. So the more stress for any idea implementation is on manager’s head and not on employees.
Like the famous saying in “Slum dog millionaire” To answer the questions you don’t have to be intelligent just be smart. So to handle tough job no need to be intelligent but smart.
